Diagnostic Treatment

MRI Scans

TraumaCare provides a nationwide MRI scanning service as part of it's rehabilitation service. The integrated service enables us to provide a joined up service to patients where the need for a scan I identified following assessment or treatment in order for effective management of the injury to be provided.

Rates are highly competitive with good nationwide coverage using modern scanners and reports provided by well-qualified Consultant Radiologists.

What is an MRI scan?

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a relatively new diagnostic treatment technique that began at the start of the 1980s.

An MRI scan uses magnetic and radio waves to produces images of soft tissues that cannot be seen with x-rays. The further advantage is that the patient is not exposed to x-ray radiation. The use of powerful magnetic forces means I t is essential to ensure that the patient does not have any metal within their body as serious injury could be cause during the scan.

There are essentially two main types of scanners. The more common closed scanner, which is akin to a large doughnut into which the patient is slid to be scanned. The other and much less common is an open scanner. Open scanners have the advantage that they can accommodate patients who are too large or claustrophobic to fit into a normal scanner.

X-Rays

TraumaCare provides X-rays nationwide at competitive rates to help enable diagnosis of boney injuries. We began providing this service to assist your therapist who had concerns that a patient may have sustained a boney injury following trauma in the accident in which they had been involved. The x-rays are helpful to the therapist in ensuring that mobilisation and manipulation may safely be performed without risk of injury to the patient. Chiropractors in particular will often wish to have x-rays taken before manipulating patients.

Ultrasound Examinations

Ultrasound examinations may be recommended for diagnosis of injuries such those suffered to shoulders. They also offer an alternative, although less detailed or accurate, to an MRI scan in cases where the patient cannot be scanned. TraumaCare can arrange scans nationwide at competitive rates.

Nerve Conduction Studies and EMG tests

The test measures electrical activity in the nerves and is used to test for nerve damage. The tests are performed / reported by Consultant Neurophysiologists. We are often asked to provide these tests in conjunction with management of carpal tunnel disorders to determine if surgical intervention may be required. The service is available nationwide. The proximity of the patient to the centre where the test will be performed varies as it is a relatively specialist procedure and particularly when carried out privately.
